How to Care for Your Handmade Leather Shoes

Handmade leather shoes are not simply accessories. They are investments in style, workmanship, comfort, and superior craftsmanship. Because each pair is hand-constructed out of exceptional materials, looking after these shoes in the long-term can protect not only their aesthetic appearance but also increase their service life.

How to Care for Your Handmade Leather Shoes

In addition to becoming more valuable, over time, genuine leather will acquire a beautiful patina, making these footwear look even more individual as they age.

You simply do not have this characteristic effect from synthetically manufactured footwear.

For top performance, however, they must be regularly and carefully maintained.

These are practical care tips that will make your handmade shoes last and last.

1. Clean Your Shoes Religiously:

Regular cleaning is the key when it comes to leather footwear. Dust, dirt, and many other particles may accumulate and later impact the quality of the leather over time.

After each wearing, simply give your hand-made footwear a once-over with a soft-bristled shoe brush or a clean microfibre cloth to get off superficial dust or dirt.

If you wish to make an in-depth cleaning using this first step on a pair of favourite handmade leather footwear. First, give your shoes a thorough brushing with a dry cloth.

In such a fashion, your shoes remain not just striking but also protected against all the negative effects of deeply entrenched contaminants.

2. Condition the Leather:

This is essential because even leather naturally dries out over time- as a matter of fact. It’s something that can even be made worse in very dry or hot climates, as the sun dries everything! Using leather conditioner “moisturises’ your shoes, making the leather supple and pliant.

Apply a little polish using a soft cloth onto the shoe and work around until you’ve gone all over, then set it to stand for a period of time, allowing it to soak in (e.g 5 minutes, then brush. You should try a little polish on one section of the leather near the tongue of the shoe to test the colour.

For those of you who want greater protection against the sun, just apply a tiny amount all around.

3. Protect From Water:

We said that high-quality leather “doesn’t love water”! While they don’t instantly go to pieces when exposed to humidity (if you’ve put good wax polish on), too much can certainly do harm. If your handmade leather footwear becomes saturated, dab with a clean, dry towel, then set aside to air-dry naturally.

Place nothing near the shoes to accelerate the process. This might cause damage due to heat no-radiators/fires/heaters.

Do not store your leather footwear where they’ll accumulate ‘sweat’ moisture. If you must wear your handmade leather footwear in very damp weather, it is strongly advisable to purchase a suitable protective product.

4. Invest in the Best Shoe Trees:

Even just one quality pair is ideal – to help your shoes retain their shape as they dry after being worn in the closet or by the bed, they need them for drying out as is needed because otherwise if you only had to wear say pair’s one year after wear in (say for instance if you go on holiday and don’t take any others), you simply will wear them out because of to much pressure on certain aspects!!

Wooden/cedar trees are best for absorption as well, and this, along with shoe polish/condition will protect your investment far into the future.

5. Polish Your Shoes Regularly:

Similarly, conditioning and protection for a polished appearance. A quality polish makes them look newer, can deepen the original colour, and gives them protection from dirt and moisture for daily use, too. The key again (before applying any polish product) is to ensure shoes are fully clean and dry. Use your favourite brush/applicator brush, and circular movements will keep them looking better 4ever.. Do not overdo it, because too much polish will create a residue that builds up and makes shoes dull.

6. Allow Your Shoes to Rest:

Hand-made leather shoes, no matter the quality, simply need time to ‘rest and breathe’. If you wear the same handmade shoes the same two day’s around -week (eg., Monday, Thursday, & Saturday), you have to give them no less than the other pair so they can ‘lose any weight of sweat, and recover from any stress. As well, if they don’t ‘rest’ enough, you might soon have footwear with unpleasant odors, something I know, but even leather can go bad.

7. Store Your Shoes Safely When not on duty;

Make sure your handmade luxury footwear is safe. Keep your leather pieces in a cool, dry place that is out of reach of direct sunshine. This also helps protect in the heat with the heat protection item we spoke about, if you decide to use one. You want your footwear to have exposure to air so the ‘breathable’ properties can work.

And a bag, it really is not an appropriate store for handmade leather shoes.

8. Take Care of the Soles:

It could be simple to get enthusiastic about the shiny leather upper and forget about the soles. However, they’re also deserving of care and attention. Inspect periodically, and if you discover that they are showing excessive wear, you have only yourself to blame when it’s time to go somewhere (at the shop). A good tailor can fix these and extend the life of your handmade shoes even further

The cost of such repairs and adjustments is well worth the investment to prolong the life of footwear, which took their producer so long to make, so it might last far, far longer than would happen in the usual case.

9. Absolutely Do Not Use ‘Harsh’ Chemicals:

One can’t state this often enough: there simply are far, far better ways of dealing with an extremely dirty shoe with something you have lying about in the house, as cleaners will eventually wear down leather or stain it badly, sometimes permanently! Use leather products formulated to be used for this special job… or as recommended for the particular kind of footwear.

If you haven’t used a certain product before, be sure to put it in a discreet corner of your footwear first, then give it a few moments, see how the leather turns, before using it overall, especially with all respect for my friend ‘s! And my partner. Because of how they can sometimes go into leather, I am of personal origin, they might destroy the beauty in a small part like near lace.

10. BeGentle With Your Shoes:

A little awareness goes a long way. Do not step on the back of your shoe when putting it on or taking it off; this will stretch the material prematurely and leave creases. Always put shoes on and take them off carefully.

So where is the catch?

There is no, except perhaps the one that it can take you several weeks/months before this type of ‘product/process’ is realised, but I don’t worry that’ll be fine, and perhaps you would be best advising my new friend by taking him and letting him see how it has got up.
